Prof. Dr. Wolfgang Bauhofer

Wolfgang Bauhofer was born in 1947 in Linz, Austria. He grew up in Austria and continues to hold Austrian citizenship. From 1965 to 1974 he studied physics at German universities in Kiel, Freiburg and Stuttgart and received his Ph.D. in 1974 with a thesis in solid-state physics. After a year in industry at Bayer GmbH in Leverkusen he joined the Max Planck Institute for Solid State Research in Stuttgart where he was engaged in basic research. During this time he spent several months at the Academia Sinica Semiconductor Institute in Beijing and IBM’s Thomas J. Watson Research Center in Yorktown Heights, NY, USA.
He has been a full professor of microelectronic materials in the school of electrical engineering at the Hamburg University of Technology (TUHH) since 1990. His research work focuses on the development and characterization of new materials for applications in electrical engineering. In recent years he has been actively involved in the establishment of International Master's Programs at the TUHH. Since 1999 he has been President of the NIT.
