BEGÜM KOYMAT – CAREER IN AN INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS ENVIRONMENT

“The international, open atmosphere at the NIT especially made its mark on me. It widened my understanding of other cultures and helps me today to deal with multicultural teams,” says Begüm Koymat. On leaving school in Turkey she dreamt of an international career in industrial engineering. She studied hard at the Marmara University in Istanbul and graduated as a Bachelor with top grades. She was rewarded with a scholarship from the Turkish Educational Foundation (TEV) and the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) that enabled her to take up a further degree program in Hamburg. Looking for a special challenge, the gifted young student decided to go for the double degree program at the TUHH and the NIT. She was delighted from the word “go” with the program’s practical orientation. During her project work at Ostfriesische Tee Gesellschaft Laurens Spethmann GmbH & Co. KG she was able to work on two projects simultaneously. She learnt new methods of process cost management and took part in the development of an innovative product. Her commitment earned her the NIT Study Award. At her present employer, Procter & Gamble, Begüm Koymat startet in the position of a market planning manager and is now working as a project manager in export customer service and logistics.

MOHAMMAD INDRA NURMAWAN – AN INDONESIAN WORKING FOR A GERMAN COMPANY IN CHINA

At first he was worried that a turbo study program with scant leisure time might be too tough. “But in the end I even enjoyed being constantly busy,” Mohammad Indra Nurmawan says. Coping with the exacting schedule of a double degree program was a matter not just of hard work but above all of intelligent work and time management. Studying and living under one roof with fellow-students from all over the world was just right for him. The Indonesian’s resumé is a classic example of the NIT’s living network. He studied industrial engineering at the Bandung Institute of Technology, where the consistently positive experiences of NIT alumni he met there convinced him to take the plunge and continue his studies in Hamburg. As an intern and a diploma student he worked successfully for his sponsor, the Brose Group, in Coburg. After he completed his studies, the company posted him to the logistics team of its Wuhan, China, branch and after working as a logistics planner for Brose Automotive Systems in Changchun and Shanghai, he has been a logistics manager in Shanghai since April 2011.
