On 02 September 2011, NIT Class 11 celebrated their graduation in the Audimax I, situated on the campus of the Technical University of Hamburg-Harburg.

The evening was opened by Dr. Christoph Jermann, CEO of the NIT, and Dr. Ralf Grote, Head of staff at the president’s office at TUHH.  Dr. Grote communicated very warm regards by Professor Antranikian, president of the TUHH, who was on a trip to Singapore and, therefore, not available to attend the ceremony.

The commencement speech was hold by Hamburg’s second mayor and senator for science and research, Dr. Dorothee Stapelfeldt, who focused on the unique combination of the double degree program as well as the attractive offerings by the NIT. Senator Dr. Stapelfeldt also presented this year’s DAAD study Award to NIT student Vivek Ghewari from India.

Vivek Ghewari was awarded with the DAAD Study Award for his academic achievements as well as for his outstanding commitment to the integration of foreign students into the student community. The award carries a value of 1000€.

Moreover, the best teacher award was presented by Dr. Jermann to Professor Dr. Carl Joachim Kock, who unfortunately could not attend the event.

A number of entertaining student contributions were designed to make this evening special. The ceremony started with a song performed by the NIT/TUHH student band. Furthermore, two show reels and an outstanding statistic about NIT student life were presented – both guaranteed a good laugh among the audience. Another special moment was created by graduates Pablo Roberto Sanabria Walter, Oluwaseun Mathew Oguntade, Ricardo Martinez Banda and Pablo Toro Alvarez, who gave a really striking performance of the song “Time of my life” (Green Day).

Despite this, both class 11 graduates Viola Pokman and Sreevatsa Praveen gave an inspiring speech, and later in the evening alumni Aditi Ramdorai (Class 7) and Qikai Zhang-Horiot (Class 3) would speak about their strong network and its assets.

After the graduation ceremony, all graduates and their guests gathered at the reception in the NIT foyer, which was kindly sponsored by Lufthansa Technik.
