HOW TO APPLY FOR THE MBA/M.A. PROGRAM AT THE NIT


WHO CAN APPLY?

We invite applications from motivated candidates with:

  • a proven record of personal and academic achievement
  • a first degree (on Bachelor's level or higher) in Engineering, Technology, IT, Natural Sciences or a business-related field
  • a high level of proficiency in English (C1)
  • an open mind and curiosity
  • professional experience is a plus but not a requirement for admission (see below)

Professional Experience
If you have already obtained 24 months of relevant professional experience after obtaining your Bachelor's degree (and before starting the Technology Management program) you will graduate from the Technology Management program with an MBA (Master of Business Administration) if it is confirmed by your employer(s). If this is not the case, you will graduate with a Master of Arts in Technology Management.

Student Visa
EU candidates: EU citizens can choose between a Master/MBA with 90 ECTS and a Master/MBA with 120 ECTS.
Non-EU candidates must choose the Master/MBA with 120 ECTS to obtain a student visa.

Curriculum Vitae

A one- to two-page summary of your academic and professional career is required. A standardized format is not needed but you should make sure that your CV includes your qualifications, special achievements as well as your foreign language and programming skills.


Bachelor's degree certificate

Bachelor's degree certificate or equivalent, including your aggregate mark or grade point average. If your final degree certificate is not yet available, you need to submit an official provisional degree certificate or an official letter of your registrar, dean or academic supervisor, listing the remaining subjects and, if possible, the prospective grades as well as the prospective final grade average.


Transcript of records 

Complete university transcript of records (semester mark sheets), listing your subjects and grades (for applicants from China, Mongolia and Vietnam plus APS upon enrollment).


Official explanation of the university grading system

Official explanation of your university grading system issued by your registrar, dean, or academic supervisor, indicating at least the maximum passing grade and the minimum passing grade for graduation. If the complete grading system is explained on your transcript of record a separate explanation is not required.


Proof of English language proficiency

Please note that all applicants whose native language is not English must submit a valid proof of proficiency in English, even though English might be an official language in their home country and even though their previous education might have been conducted in English language. Valid means that any certificate may not be older than two years. Candidates must prove their proficiency in English by one of the following tests:

  • a TOEFL score report. The minimum TOEFL score for a successful application is 90 points for the internet-based exam and 577 for the paper-based exam. The TUHH institution code is 8165, a department code is not required. TUHH only accepts the internet-based and paper-based tests! TOEFL ITP will not be accepted!
  • an IELTS-Academic score report. The minimum overall IELTS score for admission to TUHH is 6.5.
  • a Cambridge Certificate in Advanced English
  • a Cambridge Certificate of Proficiency in English
  • a "telc English C1"-result
  • a DAAD Language Certificate (C1-result)

Statement of purpose

The statement of purpose (max. two pages) should include your reasons to pursue the Technology Management program at the NIT and your future career plans.

If applicable: Proof of work experience

If you have already obtained 24 months of relevant professional experience after obtaining your Bachelor's degree (and before starting the Technology Management program) you will graduate from the Technology Management program with an MBA (Master of Business Administration) if it is confirmed by your employer(s). If this is not the case, you will graduate with a Master of Arts in Technology Management.

Please provide a letter from your employer(s) confirming the entry date, leaving date, the weekly working hours (i.e. whether it was full-time employment) and your responsibilities.

 

HOW DOES THE ADMISSION PROCESS WORK?

The admission process at the NIT is conducted by an admission committee based on the documents supplied with your application and by a personal interview.
 

  • At the NIT, we admit 30 to 40 new students every year to our Technology Management class. Due to a limited number of places, we recommend you to submit your application early before the final deadline.
  • We use a rolling admission system so that admission can be declared before the deadline. Promising candidates will be invited to an interview with the admissions committee - either in person at the NIT or via Zoom/Teams.

HOW TO APPLY FOR THE DOUBLE MASTER´S PROGRAM AT THE NIT + TUHH

WHO CAN APPLY?

We accept applications from outstanding international and German students, in particular students must have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, natural science, information or computer science*
  • Proven record of personal and academic achievement
  • High level of proficiency in English
  • Initial professional experience is a plus but not a requirement for admission


Professional Experience
If you have already obtained 24 months of relevant professional experience after obtaining your Bachelor's degree (and before starting the Technology Management program) you will graduate from the Technology Management program with an MBA (Master of Business Administration) if it is confirmed by your employer(s). If this is not the case, you will graduate with a Master of Arts in Technology Management.


Please note: Good German language proficiency at the TEST DaF or DSH level is required for the TUHH MSc program in German. Alternatively, you can apply to study one of the TUHH’s MSc programs taught entirely in English.

* The Precondition for admission to the Double Degree Master’s Program is that you fulfil the requirements for the TUHH’s MSc program of your choice. To find out more, check the admissions conditions for the study program in question on the TUHH website. You can combine the NIT MBA or Master's Program in Technology Management with one of the 6 international MSc programs or any of the German-language MSc program (except Internationales Wirtschaftsingenieurwesen).

Only native English speakers from Australia, the UK, Ireland, USA, New Zealand, or Canada (except Quebec) are exempted from this requirement. In this case please submit a copy of your passport.

Statement of purpose

The statement of purpose (max. two pages) should include your reasons for undertaking graduate work in the chosen field of engineering at TUHH, your motivation to pursue the additional technology management program at the NIT and your future career plans. If you want to apply for one of the industrial scholarships, please specify in your statement of purpose which scholarship you want to be considered for and give reasons why you are interested in the specific sponsoring company. Please only choose one company (if your academic profile matches more than one scholarship program, the NIT Admissions Team may ask you to submit an additional Statement of Purpose at a later time).


If applicable: Proof of work experience

For non-German native speakers applying for the Double Degree program with a German MSc program at TUHH: Proof of German language proficiency (at TEST DaF or DSH level)

HOW DOES THE ADMISSION PROCESS WORK?

  • Admission to one of the MSc study programs at the TUHH is a precondition for being considered by the NIT.
  • Admission at the NIT is based on a rolling admission system. To improve your chances of admission, we recommend you to apply as early as possible. 
  • The admission process at the NIT is conducted by an admission committee based on the documents supplied with your application and by a personal interview.
  • Applying for the MBA/Master’s program at the NIT does not affect your chances of admission to one of the MSc programs at the TUHH

Depending on whether you choose to apply for a German or an International MSc at TUHH, there will be some differences in the application process. In particular, the application deadlines are different. Read the following instructions carefully.

ALREADY ENROLLED/ACCEPTED at TUHH

If you are already enrolled in one of the international M.Sc. programs at TUHH or are studying in a consecutive BSc program at TUHH please submit the documents specified above (Application Form, CV, Statement of Purpose, Transcripts and Certificates from your Bachelor’s degree, proof of English proficiency) along with your confirmation of matriculation and a current transcript of record from TUHH via email to admissions@bitte nicht bespammennithh.de

INTERNATIONAL M.Sc. at TUHH + MBA/M.A. at the NIT

APPLY FOR AN M.SC. PROGRAM AT TUHH AND CHOOSE DOUBLE DEGREE OPTION

The application process for the Double Degree Master option is integrated into the application process of TUHH.

Applying for the Double Master Program does not affect your chances of admission to one of the M.Sc. programs at the TUHH. You will be able to withdraw your application for the Double Master Program at any point in the application process, in which case only your M.Sc. application will be processed further.

Please follow these steps to apply for the Double Degree Program:

STEP 1)     Do the pre-check for your MSc program: In order to get to the online application portal for the international Master's programs an online preliminary assessment test (“pre-check”) is required.

STEP 2)     Upon successful completion of the pre-check, you will receive a code for the TUHH application portal.

STEP 3)     Use the code to access the portal, choose the MSc program you want to apply for and continue with uploading your documents.

STEP 4)     Please choose the Double Degree option by answering the respective question after uploading your documents with “YES”  

STEP 5)     Please make sure to check your application status in the application portal regularly!

STEP 6) Once you have been offered admission into the MSc program at TUHH, the NIT Admissions Team will get in touch with you to inform you about the status of your application for the Double Degree Program.
