The Academic Senate of the Hamburg University of Technology elected Prof. Dr. Andreas Timm-Giel as the new president of the TU Hamburg. The university council confirmed the election. He is scheduled to take office in the 1st quarter of 2021.
Prof. Dr. Andreas Timm-Giel expresses his gratitude for the trust placed in him by the election: "I look forward to shaping the future of TU Hamburg in research and teaching together with all members of the TU. Especially in times of crisis, Hamburg needs a strong TU to develop technological solutions for economic and social problems and to train dedicated engineers. The TU Hamburg will continue to be a reliable partner for Hamburg as a location for science and business." The Chairman of the University Council, Walter Conrads, congratulates the President-designate: "We are delighted that in Andreas Timm-Giel we have been able to win an outstanding scientist and experienced university manager as the new President of TU Hamburg. With his expertise, Professor Timm-Giel will be able to set new impulses in research and teaching as part of the TU's growth course and further strengthen the innovation and technology transfer of our university."

As acting president and previously as vice president, he has contributed significantly to the growth course and the outstanding achievements in research and knowledge and technology transfer. The TU Hamburg is already a renowned center of engineering education and research that radiates far beyond Hamburg. As a think tank and future laboratory for research and development, the Technical University has a major influence on social development through inventions and new technologies. I am sure that Professor Timm-Giel will provide the right impetus for this. I look forward to continued good cooperation."
Prof. Dr. Andreas Timm-Giel has been a full professor and head of the Institute for Communication Networks at the TU Hamburg since November 2009. Here, his research focuses on mobile and vehicular communications, the Internet of Things and future network architectures. From October 2014 to August 2020, the scientist was Vice President for Research at TU Hamburg. In this position, he actively contributed to the future development of a growing university. In doing so, he focused on interdisciplinarity and digitization of engineering. Andreas Timm-Giel has held the office of executive president since September 2020. He succeeds Prof. Dr. Ed Brinksma, who held the office for two and a half years.
