On October 30th, students started their studies at the NIT Northern Institute of Technology Management—many of them leaving their homes and families far away. To help them have the best start possible, as well as to get to know German culture better, we are looking for committed Hamburgers, who would like to familiarize a student with our customs. Especially in the Christmas and winter season, many students long for a stand-in family, who can show them the local traditions and culture. Therefore, the NIT would like to offer each student a German godmother, godfather, or entire god-family to bond with.
Thanks to these host families, the students build a stronger bond with German culture and hopefully feel more "at home“ here. The host-parents and the respective students meet regularly for fun leisure activities, such as sailing, going to the theatre, or game nights. The idea is to let the students participate in the everyday life of their families and to give the students the opportunity to see what life is like in Germany. Shared experiences such as Advent Tea,
ChristmasMarket visits, and Easter concerts have been student favorites in the past. Many NIT alumni and their host-parents continue to meet-up even years after graduation to study, hang out, and cultivate deep friendships.
