Kumar Sourav wins 2017 DAAD Prize

Kumar Sourav, an Indian student, on Friday received the DAAD Prize in recognition of his exceptional commitment. It was presented during the NIT Northern Institute of Technology Management’s graduation ceremony in the main lecture theater of the Hamburg University of Technology (TUHH).

Worth EUR 1,000 in cash, it is funded by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) and awarded to international students for outstanding social activity that enriches international cooperation.

Many fellow-students nominated Kumar, 28, for the prize. He won over a jury of NIT students and staff partly because of his keen interest in the German language and in German culture. Whether in cooking Indian dishes or in discussions with the next master’s class, he has never failed to contribute toward intercultural exchange.

“Kumar’s good qualities not only help make the student community warmer and more cordial; they also encourage and motivate others to make progress and develop themselves in order to do good for society,” said the prize-giving speaker Stephan Scheuner, Recruiting & Admissions Manager at the NIT, quoting from a letter recommending him for the award.

Prize-winner Kumar Sourav recently graduated with a master’s degree in technology management at the NIT, studying at the same time for an MSc in international production management at the TUHH.

We congratulate Kumar most cordially!
